"The mysterious sounds of Petra emerged right before me from thousands of miles away and were partly inspired by sounds and sights of even more distant lands from me and from them. The first few minutes instantly lured me and raised the anticipation of the moment before a band we have not heard before is about to leap from the unknown to the memorable.

The music of Petra includes instruments I haven’t even seen or heard about before and others that are well-known but with unusual and enticing combinations, there is nothing common in the virtuous hands of Petra. After being happily lost in the many paths of the labyrinth of their compositions my conclusion about Petra was quite clear: the unknown has never been so pleasant.

Sometimes there are bands that allow you to recall forgotten memories; when it comes to Petra, they take you for a walk through lost cities you might have dreamt about during hot summer nights and rapidly familiarize you with the sounds, until you understand that what they are sharing with us was trapped somewhere in our hearts and they were able to unleash it.

The aroma of foreign scents envelops the music of Petra and in the sensorial trip they immerse us in there are ancient and modern sounds, creating some sort of mystical bedlam in which the chaos of big cities interconnects with the soothing melodies of nature in the most innate manner.

Petra are based in Mexico and their sound transcends frontiers, the label citizens of the world suits them just fine and their music certainly is universal."

Petra fue concebida por Fausto Palma en Holanda originalmente bajo el nombre de Los Haznis. A su regreso a México en 2004, retoma el proyecto con la participación de nuevos músicos y nace Petra.

En 2005, lanzaron su primera producción discográfica, llamada Farah. Contó con la participación de los músicos invitados Ananta Roosens (Bélgica), Nezih Antakli (Turquía) y Celene Lion (Francia), del Conservatorio de Rotterdam.
En 2006, la banda grabó su segundo disco, el álbum doble Zinat. El mismo año, Fausto Palma compuso la música para el making off de la película Babel, en el cual se incluyó la pieza del Zinat "Reggae, raga, rock".
En el 2008 finalizaron la grabación de su tercer disco doble, Dawn, cuyo lanzamiento está previsto para el otoño del 2009.
Su primer concierto se llevó a cabo el 7 de agosto de 2004, en el extinto Bar Victoria, en la Colonia Roma. Asistieron alrededor de 600 personas y la respuesta del público fue muy positiva. Desde entonces Petra se ha presentado en:
